Anti-Hepatitis C Virus Activity of Various Indonesian Plants from Balikpapan Botanical Garden, East Borneo

Background: Hepatitis C Virus infection is a serious health problem that leads to chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, which causes high morbidity. Direct-Acting Antiviral Agents have been used as anti-hepatitis therapy. However, it was covered only in limited patients due the cost. Moreover, side effects and resistance cases were also reported some HCV genotypes. Objective: This research aimed find new anti-HCV from Indonesia plants collected Balikpapan Botanical Garden, East Borneo. Methods: Twenty-one leaf stem barks extracts successively extracted n-hexane, dichloromethane, methanol. Extracts screened for their activity under vitro culture cells concentration of 30 µg/mL. Plant inoculated Human Hepatocellular 7it infected with Japanese Fulminant strain 1a. Determination 50% Inhibitory Concentration (IC50) value further conducted at 100; 30; 10; 1; 0.1; 0.01 µg/ml extracts. Results: In revealed among 21 extract, 11 extracts, namely, n-hexane extract Luvunga scandens leaves, DCM L. scandens, Artocarpus sericicarpus, dadah, Eusideroxylon zwageri, Neolitsea cassiaefolia, methanol A. sericicarpus anisophyllus elmeri bark, dadah having potential inhibition IC50 range 0.08 ± 0.05 12.01 0.95 Conclusions: These results indicate eleven could be good candidates sources agents.
